In speaking with my Grandmother, Hazel Adams-Caulder yesterday, we found some interesting details on the name changes. Ether Louis Caulder was born Elijah Louis Calder on 29 August 1907. "Ether" must be an error. However we did confirm that in 1935, he legally changed his name to "Edward Lewis Caulder" (apparently changing everything but his sex). The suggestions of why he changed his name are varied. Grandma said that it was because of his mail and one of his brother's mail constantly getting mixed up; One of my uncles said that Pa had told him that it was changed because the bank kept getting his account and one of his brother's banking accounts mixed up; no one is really sure. Its all a real mystery because everyone says that he went by the nickname of "Jelly" ever since his childhood. So, the real answer went with him to his grave.
